Did you know that I also offer a family portraits experience at Samphire Photography? Over the years I have slowly gravitated towards outdoor photography for all my family portrait sessions. ‘Why?’ I hear you ask. Well, as a Mum of three, I know that there is no better place to be with my children than outside. Fresh air and exercise is amazing for both physical and mental well-being. I was finding that studio-based sessions, although still popular, could often be more difficult for children. Parental expectations on their children’s behaviour is higher. It can be difficult to expect children to sit still, even when lots of fun and play are involved. So I switched to outdoors and found that I could offer a much better family portraits experience for my clients.
And let me tell you, they are so much fun! Children and parents are relaxed as we enjoy a walk in the woods or along the beach, for instance. We get to look at nature, pick up conkers and listen to the birds, all whilst capturing some great family portraits. As with all my portrait sessions, I offer plenty of direction so you don’t need to worry about posing. These sessions are all about relaxing and having fun with your children, to create some amazing natural family portraits for you.
The Session
One such family who enjoyed this experience is featured here. We had initially opted for a session near their home. But, fearing it was going to be too busy plus a date change due to one of the little ones being poorly, Mum decided to go for a woodland setting instead. I am so glad she did. We went to Buchan Park one of my favourite places to shoot as it is gorgeous all year round, as well as being relatively quiet.
We enjoyed a gorgeous walk amid the sunshine and the children were in their element. I have lots of games to play with them throughout the session. This brings out smiles and laughter all around.
The children also loved playing amid the ferns resulting in some gorgeous natural images for Mum and Dad. Being outdoor helps even reluctant children to relax. We soon became firm friends and I loved having a chat with them.
As mentioned, I do offer direction but these images are also full of energy and love, capturing your family at its best.
