Do you know a family member or friend who has just had a new baby, but you are not sure what to give them this Christmas? This can always be difficult, especially when new families have been inundated with gifts post birth. However, as a Mum of three – and therefore an experienced gift buyer and receiver! – I have put together a short list of some great items and webpages to inspire you. Believe me, it could have been a lot longer! So here we go, my suggestions of great Christmas gift ideas for newborns 2019.
Taf Toys Kimmy Koala Tummy Time Book
Did you know that babies can only see in black and white until around 4 months of age? So this great book which is both in black and white on one side of the pages and colour on the other is fantastic. It will provide months of use as they grow and develop, and is nice and light with soft pages for those little hands to explore. Ideal for use during tummy time, with different textures and crinkly elements, and suitable from birth.
Available from JoJo Maman Bebe and other retailers, for under £20.

Harrods Christmas Bear
This great idea came from my assistant Karen, whose own boys were gifted these as newborns. Every year Harrods design a new Christmas bear, with the Harrods signature and the year embroidered on their foot. This year’s bear is Joshua and he will be a real treasured gift for so many years to come. They are so soft, just made for cuddling, and sit really well if you would like to keep them as a keepsake of the year of their birth in your little one’s nursery.
Suitable for ages 3 and above.
Available from Harrods, £30.
Baby Teether
I love these teethers and these cute ones are lightweight enough for your little ones to have something to chew on if their teeth are giving them trouble. Teething can begin as young as two months of age so it is always handy to gift one of these so that parents have them to hand should teething start earlier than expected. My favourite is the camera teether. Can you guess why?!!!!!
Teethers available from https://www.littleteethersuk.com/ starting from £4.
Jellycat
Oh so cute. You can never ever go wrong with a Jellycat gift. These toys have been a firm favourite of mine since we had out first child many moons ago! So super soft I would dare anybody to pick one of these up and not give it a cuddle. My new favourite is their ocean range, having grown up in Cornwall!!! And if anyone fancies gifting me a toy my particular favourite is the Storm Octopus…you are never too old for cuddly toys, right?!!
Available from Jellycat, and many other retailers. Wide variety of prices. See individual items for age suitability.
Tummy Time Roll
It won’t be long before parents will be encouraging their newborns to strengthen their neck and shoulder muscles through tummy time. These great tummy time rolls are a brilliant way to allow little ones to do just that. I particularly like this roll from Mamas and Papas and it is raised either side of your baby so will help prevent littles ones from rolling off and the cushioning helps avoid any nasty bumps when they get a little tired of holding their head up. Suitable from birth.
Available from Mamas & Papas, £19.
Baby Moccasins
Every baby need a pair of baby moccs, right? Yes, they so do, and Aidie London have a great selection for both boys and girls. Endorsed by leading London podiatrists and made using natural organic products plus sent in biodigradable packaging, it is a great ethical way to purchase a gorgeous gift for a new baby.
I love these pink dot ones for little girls, and for little boys Mustard is definitely my favourite.
Available from from Aidie London. Under £25. Free UK delivery on all orders.
Soft Cubes
If you are looking for something more play-based then these soft stackable woodland cubes from JoJo Mama Bebe are excellent. Helping to develop fine motor skills and imagination, as well as being totally gorgeous, this set of four would make a great Christmas gift. Suitable from birth.
Available in store or online from JoJo Maman Bebe, £16.
Clothing
If you are thinking of giving clothes then check out the Newbie store, they have a great range of clothing for all ages but their Age 0-1 range is lovely and even provides a premature range which is fantastic. Made through sustainable solutions from how the cotton is grown, the choice of chemicals used and better working conditions, their products are a great choice for eco conscious purchasers.
Available online at newbiestore.com
Personalised Baubles
If you are looking for personalised items for a new baby then Not on the High Street is a go-to must. And seeing as it is Christmas then a personalised Christmas tree decoration is a wonderful idea. Very in at the moment is Peter Rabbit and these are just super cute. Don’t you agree?
Available from Rose Cotage at Not on the High Street, £15 with free UK delivery.
Photographic Portrait Session
Another gift always worth considering is a portrait session. I provide a Milestone session for slightly older babies that fall outside the newborn window of around one month, and these sessions capture babies’ personality as they grow and develop. This Christmas I am offering Gift Vouchers which include a digital image, for those that you find hard to buy for.

However, there is nothing more precious than time, and a gift of a night’s babysitting (or even several) would be greatly appreciated. Whether that is so that Mum and Dad can go out for some quiet time together, or so that then can get their heads down early for the night for some much needed extra sleep, I am sure it would be a gift well received. Priceless xx
