Mother’s Day is just around the corner, it comes up fast, doesn’t it?! This year it is super important to be supporting local businesses so I thought I would put together a list of some of my favourite independent Mother’s Day Gifts in Sussex to thank your mums for all the hard work they’ve put in over the year.
Trust me, as a mum of three life is busy and this is one day when I always enjoy taking some time out to spend with the children. Plus, they are of an age where they keep any bickering to a minimum as it is my day. Win Win!!! That said, I do appreciate a gift, homemade or otherwise, as it means that I have been thought about. I am especially fond of a homemade card and my children are turning into quite the artists so I’m definitely looking forward to this year’s offerings.

The Gift of Memories
I know as a photographer I am always talking about the importance of being in portraits with your children, so why not indulge your mum with a Mummy and Me Session at Samphire Photography? They are really lovely way for mums to spend time with their children and will give them a gift that they will truly treasure for years to come. The session itself is relaxed and mums have the opportunity to use one of my gorgeous dresses to make them feel extra special. Or you can gift them a full portrait session. Gift vouchers are valid for a year so plenty of time to book in.
Keep it Floral
I don’t know many mums who don’t like flowers and this local company is simply amazing. I have had the pleasure of watching her business grow and her bouquets are just simply gorgeous. Honeybridge Flowers is run by Ellie and based in Ashurst. Not only does she arrange the bouquets but she also grows all her flowers. Honeybridge Flowers will be offering Mother’s Day bouquets again this year with free local delivery. But if you miss out you can always pop into Springs Garden Nursery farm shop which sells her flowers and collect some added treats while you are there!
All Things Yummy
I know so many great local companies offering devilishly good treats and it is only for one day, right? So why not go a little over the top! There are so many great independent companies out there. I hope these few will whet your appetite.
- Forastero Brownies, These brownies look utterly divine. I have a real soft spot for brownies and these make my mouth water just looking at them.
- Cakes By Tina, This lady produces treats for both the mouth and eyes that look almost too good to eat!
- Brighton Cocao company. I am having a hard time not looking through everything in her shop without popping it into my basket!!! Dark chocolate is my chocolate of choice, just so you know!
- The Copper Pan Fudge Company. Growing up in Cornwall has definitely left me with a soft spot for fudge but this Sussex-based maker of all things fudge looks amazing
- South Coast Macaroons. Tried and tested, these divine little French morsels are just amazing, With so many flavours to select from you can’t go wrong!
The Scent of Love
I really love wax melts and these ones from Ellie’ Avenue based in Peacehaven offer a range of scents for all. This year she is offering Mother’s Day boxes, containing four brand new scented snap bars from her spring selection wrapped, sealed, boxed and finished with biodegradable dried petals. I can’t decide which scent is most appealing; Rocksalt & Driftwood, Velvety Rose & Oud, Fluffy Towels or Bluebells. There is limited availability however so order fast to avoid disappointment. You can even team up her melts with a wax burner. It will leave not just your house beautifully scented but these are a great way to relax in the bath with a glass of Prosecco if that is your fancy.
Or why not try The Little Sussex Candle Company. They make the most divine candles and will look beautiful in any room. Every candle is hand-poured in Sussex. With handpicked suppliers, to guarantee their range remains vegan and cruelty-free without causing harm to the environment.
Time to Relax
Why not purchase some amazing local beauty treatment products to treat your Mum too? These amazing products are from Botanic & Blush. They even offer a Mum To Be balm for all those expectant mums out there.
Not up for a bit of DIY beauty treatments? Then why not buy a gift voucher for Beauty Secrets based in Horsham, I have been for several treatments there over the years and they never disappoint when you need a spot of R&R.
A Wee Tipple
If something alcoholic is more your mum, then I would recommend taking a look at some of the amazing local wines available from Bolney Wine Estate. They have a really good range of drinks and gifts available as well as wine tours. However, if you fancy something a little stronger then I recommend Slakes Gin. I was fortunate enough to be bought some for my last birthday and it was delicious. I have also just seen that they do a Wild Elixir gin-based aperitif, This is definitely on my list of things to try now.
Food for Thought
You could treat your mum to a Mother’s Day afternoon tea from Joanna’s Boutique Tea Room, based in Storrington. These are being offered all weekend and there is a selection of delivery and collection slots available. They even deliver within a a 15 mile radius! Yummy. I love this tea room and the treat of an afternoon tea would be a lovely way to spend the afternoon. Please note, booking is essential.
Don’t fancy afternoon tea they why not try The Green Man, based very near me in Partridge Green. They are offering Mother’s Day lunches which I know will be amazing.
I am sure there are lots of other local businesses out there that are offering equally amazing gifts for Mothers Day and I think that mums deserve an extra special little, don’t you?
