I know I have written before about the importance of being in portraits for your family. which advocated printing images. This time I would like to talk about the importance of displaying your images. You know, actually getting round to putting them up on your walls? For many of us, the use of smart phones is a great way of documenting our families lives. However, what if you want to have those images on display around your home? A phone pic just won’t cut it. Well, not if you want to display your images at any decent size and quality anyway. Although I do admit the gap is getting closer.
So this is where I come in. Myself and thousands of other UK photographers offer their clients something they simply cannot achieve on their own. Above all, family portraits where you are all present in the image. After recently trying to take just my own self portrait, it is definitely not easy. Selfies are fine but not for something I would actually want displayed on my wall. I also offer a great experience for clients so they are able to take time out, relax and really enjoy having their portraits taken. How do I know I offer this? Well, because my clients tell me, frequently. This way I know I am getting it right for all of you.
Just the digitals, right?
So a photographic experience is what you are looking for. Once you decide on a photographer to use you go ahead with the session. But how many of you actually think ahead of time what you would like to use the images for? What’s your desired end result? Or, how many of you just think ‘well, I am going to have all the digitals’? I can tell you that for pretty much 90% of my clients it is the digital images that hold the most importance for them. This is wrong. The digital images hold the most importance to me but it should be the printed image which hold the most importance to you.
Why is this?
Simply because once you receive that little USB of images a huge percentage of people just leave images on said USB…. for years. Often this has even resulted in a lost or damaged USB. Thankfully, I keep images backed up securely for 5 years but digital storage of any image is not a truly safe way to store your treasured memories. Also, how can you easily view the images on your USB? This is why I offer all clients a great USB & print offer when they come in. That way they get to not only receive the digital files but also a full set of prints. This way they can see just how the images should look printed and they are easily accessible for family and friends to look through and pass around.
But what about wall art? I hear you ask
Wall Art is a natural progression of the above. You have taken time to look around and select a photographer you like and wish to work with, selected wardrobe choices, and had your hair and make up done. You have invested in this experience. Then why are you not displaying your images with pride around your whole house? I have a great collection of images of my own family in my house. From large, stand alone pieces of wall art through to a collection of images from the same portrait session that complement each other within the display.
Not sure what to order?
Again, this is where your photographer comes in, as they can truly help you see the importance of displaying your images. Make sure you speak to your photographer before, during and after your session with regards to the wall art you would like. Take time to think about where you would like the images to be displayed. Consider the colour schemes in your house. Are they going to be single portraits, a collection or will they even sit together with existing pieces? All these are important factors to help you decide on the best way to display your images.
Now, here is where I let you into a little secret. Most photographers aren’t sales people. We tend to take the head-in-the-sand approach when it comes to selling. But one thing we are really good at is creativity and knowing what looks good. So why not make the most of our knowledge and have us help you in providing stunning wall art for you homes? It’s all part of the portrait experience.
But why should I order through my photographer?
This is a question which gets asked A LOT and the reason is purely and simply… quality. I spent a lot of time researching the product I wish to offer, to make sure that I am sourcing the best quality for my clients.
- Hand stretched canvases, both framed and unframed, that are certificate guaranteed to offer no yellowing or warping over time.
- Handmade and finished Birch Wood Blocks are made from FSC certified birch from sustainable forests. They are then sealed to protect against scratching, moisture and UV fading.
- Framed Prints which are handmade from framers in the UK. Using stunning archival mount boards to provide the perfect framing your Fine Art prints.
- Acrylics which use specially selected materials and skilled craftsmen to bring out the best colour rendition & sharpness possible. They are UV protected & sealed to last a lifetime.
The companies I use, like myself, have invested thousands in equipment and training. This ensures that they are providing the best possible quality. So it makes total sense to use them (plus they are all UK based which is another win in my book). In exactly the same way that it makes total sense to use me, to help with the importance of displaying your images.
