Are you looking for great ways to announce your pregnancy? Congratulations! September is a high birth rate month (it’s around 9 months after the festive season!). Which means this time of year is when a lot of people are thinking about telling family and friends the good news. So, I thought I would take a look at some great ways to announce your pregnancy. Pregnancy announcements are becoming even more popular as trends from across the pond filter into the UK. A simple “I’m pregnant” will soon be a thing of the past.
Play the guessing game
For siblings it is a great way to keep them in suspense a little longer. Have them sit down and close their eyes, then pop some baby related items in front of them and see how long it takes from them to guess who is going to be coming to stay in 9 months! Or how about a treasure hunt? Hide various clues around the house and each treasure they find has a letter attached spelling out the words “I am pregnant.” Playing Scrabble is a great way too, have the letter’s for “I am pregnant” stashed somewhere before you start playing and then when it is your turn, spell out the words on the board. See who is the first to realise a baby is on the way. Or the first to realise that you have just spelt out a word with more than 7 tiles!!!!
Say it with a gift
So many companies offer printing services and these are great ways to share your news. A mug saying Granny-to-be or even Auntie-to-be are fab The Personalised Gift Shop is a great online shop. You can even see the a virtual mock up of your mug before you print it.
T-shirts and baby vests can also be sent to loved ones with wording like ‘The best Dads get promoted to Grandads”. I particularly like this apron from Not on the High Street as it’s a gift which still has meaning even after your little one is born.
Etsy is also another great resource for handmade personalised items. You just need to type in the wording you are looking for and search away to your hearts content. Just be mindful to filter your search to UK stores only when searching otherwise you might have a longer wait then you were expecting for your gift as this is a worldwide site!
Printed items like these can even be posted if you don’t live nearby. You can then open them ‘together’ during an online video chat so you can see their faces.
In a portrait
This lovely couple decided to surprise family and friends by revealing their good news through sharing images taken in a portrait session with me at Samphire Photography. Their loved ones were over the moon to hear their amazing news. However, they were not only celebrating once but twice. Double the surprise and love for this gorgeous couple and their scrumptious twins.
I have also had siblings involved in a portrait session to share their parents’ good news. How cute do these girls look, sharing the news of their new baby? Just adorable.
In fact, photography is great for sharing this type of news whether it is pictures of a pair of baby booties, scans, words incorporated into the pictures, the scope is endless.
The simplicity of a card
There are so many great cards out there to send either digitally or via the post. Smilebox allows you to send free electronic cards or if you are wanting something more tangible look out for local card sellers. That way you help support your local economy and can also pop in a scan picture if you have one to spare.
In video
Video messaging is also becoming even more popular. So why not have a go and a make a short message as your great way to announce your pregnancy. You don’t have to be the latest Steven Spielberg. Use apps like iMovie, LumaFusion, Splice, and Videoshop to help you get started. Then you can announce your good news online for all to see. Social media is great for sharing both photographs and stories and it is the perfect way to spread your news to all.
Looking forward to seeing all your great ways to announce your pregnancy soon.
