Hello there gorgeous girl, I can see you looking at me! This sweet baby girl was a poppet for her portraits with Samphire Photography, newborn photographer Brighton.
Thea
Charming little Thea was very interested in seeing what was going on around her when she came in to the Samphire studio for her newborn session. Being a very grown up three weeks old, she was more awake than a younger baby would be. She was more aware of her surroundings. This is tends to be the case once babies are past the first 14 days after birth. Younger babies tend to give more opportunity to capture the curly-up, sleepy baby poses. Older newborns are more alert.
But as you can see, whatever age baby is, we can still achieve great images. So don’t worry if your baby falls outside of the two week age range. Lots of photographers, myself included, work with babies that are slightly older. Although do bear in mind that the older your little one is, and the more awake they may be, it therefore might mean some of the poses may be more difficult to achieve
We captured some beautiful images of Thea and all her gorgeous newness. A mix of some gorgeous awake and equally gorgeous asleep shots of baby. Babies grow and change so much in such a super short time, just days even, which is just one reason why newborn portraits are so very special, providing memories to treasure forever. Details like lips and lashes, fingers and toes. All captured for posterity. Look back on them is a few years time and you wont’ believe they were ever that tiny.
Session
The palette I chose for Thea was a mix of soft purples and greys, with super cosy textures. They were just perfect for this pretty lady. And oh! she looked super cute in a delicate crocheted bonnet from Knitlandia, a supplier of gorgeous handmade newborn and baby photo props I like to use. Bonnets are always a gorgeous prop, as are headbands and halos. I’m not saying my collection is getting out of control but…..!
As a mother of three children I know there is nothing more magical than the first few days of a baby’s life. I adore all types of photography but it’s portraiture that really captures my heart. To take portraits during your baby’s first month is an honour and a joy. It is also an art involving calming techniques, posing expertise and lots and lots of patience. I have all of these in abundance and use them to ensure you are rewarded with outstanding portraits of your little one.
Baby Safety
Above all else in the Samphire studio, baby safety comes first. From ensuring that all equipment is made safe prior to and during the shoot, through to the use of supporting hands on the baby. Babies are never put into positions that put them at risk of harm. Many of the classic newborn poses are achieved by using multiple images where the baby is fully supported throughout. Then editing software is used after the session to create a composite image. This ensures that your wonderful images are taken in perfect safety.
Here is a small selection of my favourite images from Thea’s newborn session with Samphire Photography xx

Complimentary Session
Remember, all of my full session newborn clients are invited back to the Samphire studio for a complimentary sitter session.
That way I get to see how ‘my’ babies have grown. Plus, this is probably one of my most favourite ages to photograph babies at. At this stage babies may be sitting up or lifting themselves up onto all fours. Bringing opportunities to pose them sitting in our vintage baskets or tin bath tub. These sessions are fun fun fun, and focus on capturing the personality of your little one!
