Returning Clients
I was delighted when this wonderful family returned to the Samphire studio to see me, an experienced newborn photographer Southwater. Nothing says “we love your work” more than a returning client. Why would you go back if you weren’t happy the first time? I certainly wouldn’t. So, to see families come back to me, time and time again, is a wonderful endorsement.
Isla-Rose’s parents said they wanted to book in for a newborn session for their second baby. I was over the moon. Beautiful Isla-Rose had been in to the Samphire studio herself when she was a newborn. Now she was nearly 4. What a wonderful young lady she has become. She came back to the studio with her gorgeously new baby brother. Both of them were a total dream to photograph. Isla-Rose could not have been prouder to be a new big sister.
Siblings
Isla-Rose was such a superstar which meant I was able to capture the two of them together. Although this was Douglas’ newborn session, it’s still so important for older siblings to be included. And I always try to create images of all the children for Mum & Dad if possible. Sometimes, this is fairly straightforward. At other times, if brothers and sisters aren’t quite old enough to hold baby safely and follow instructions, this can be achieved with composites. This is where two or more images are edited together to look as if they are one. And let me reassure that baby safety is paramount when booking a portrait session with Samphire Photography, a professional newborn photographer Southwater.
Often, when I have older siblings in the studio I schedule these shots for the beginning of the session. It can be challenging for some little ones to sit quietly for what seems like a long time, especially as the studio is kept at a toasty temperature for baby’s comfort. If their siblings find they need some fresh air and exercise, to move around more whilst I concentrate on the baby’s portraits, it’s good to know there is a park with a children’s play area not too far from the Samphire studio.
Douglas
Adorable Douglas was just 13 days old when he came into the studio. To maximise the opportunity to capture the sleepy curled up baby poses, newborn sessions most commonly take place up to 14 days after the birth. So this young man was at the perfect age, and he was the perfect model.
We captured some gorgeous awake and equally gorgeous asleep shots of baby Douglas. And oh! I just love his tiny frown – such a grown-up expression for such a little man. I selected a mix of soft green and grey for his colour palette, with wraps, knits, layers and hats to make it super comfortable, not to mention completely cute. As you can see, the colours matched in with Isla-Rose’s dress and suited Douglas’ complexion.
My feature image, one of all of this gorgeous family together, just melts my heart and you can see how much love they all have for the new addition to their family.
Welcome to the world, Douglas! xx

Still undecided about booking a professional Newborn Photographer Southwater?
Read my helpful blog where I give you 10 Things to Consider when Choosing a Newborn Photographer. A few helpful tips that should answer questions you might have. Including a very common concern among new parents-to-be: what if my baby doesn’t arrive on time?
So if you are travelling to me from Christs Hospital, Chichester, Cuckfield or Crawley Down, or even local to Southwater, it’s good to know I have a warm and welcoming studio, all set up and ready for you. There is an off-road parking space too, so you can take your little ones out of the car in safety.
The studio itself is a relaxing space, where you can help yourself to a cup of tea or coffee. You even get to drink it while it’s still hot, as I will be taking care of everything with your baby. The studio is kept at a toasty temperature for baby’s comfort, so sit back, relax, chat, or even snooze!
As a mother of three children, I know there is nothing more magical than the first few days of a baby’s life. I adore all types of photography but it’s portraiture that really captures my heart. To take portraits during your baby’s first month is an honour and a joy and I work with babies from all over West Sussex such as Cuckfield, Haywards Heath and Billingshurst . It is also an art involving calming techniques, posing expertise and lots and lots of patience. I have all of these in abundance and use them to ensure you are rewarded with outstanding portraits of your little one.
