I have seen so many adorable babies as a professional newborn photographer. Lucky me! Just one of the many perks of my job. But I am still a sucker for all the details. Those teeny tiny toes & sweet baby lashes. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that anyone can be so small and brand new. So when gorgeous Freddie came in for his newborn portraits at 12 days old I just couldn’t get over how pouty his little lips were. Simply amazing.
Freddie came in with his parents to the Samphire studio just before Christmas. Can you tell? So of course I just had to include some little Christmas props in his portraits for them. Super cute felted candy cane, anyone?! I couldn’t resist. How about a Nordic slouchy night cap? Almost too cute!
I just adore the deep, rich reds of Christmas. Such a fabulous colour. Wonderful to mix in with other props to give the images a festive feel. But this photo session wasn’t all about Christmas. It was all about Freddie. So we also used a neutral palette of warm greys, browns and blues in his session and they all suited him perfectly. Combined with a mix of textures; thick flokati, fine knits, soft woollens. It all adds to the depth in his images.
To maximise the opportunity to capture the sleepy curled up baby poses, newborn sessions most commonly take place up to 14 days after the birth. So Freddie was at the perfect age, and he was the perfect model.
In fact, he was a little superstar for his session and slept through all of it, which meant a great gallery of images and memories for Mum and Dad.
“We all had a fantastic time at the shoot and all the photos are amazing, so thank you very much! ” xx

Did you know, all my full session newborn clients are invited back to the Samphire studio for a complimentary sitter session? That way I get to see how ‘my’ babies have grown. Plus, this is probably one of my most favourite ages to photograph babies at. At this stage babies may be sitting up or lifting themselves up onto all fours. Consequently bringing opportunities to pose them sitting in our vintage baskets or tin bath tub. These sessions are fun, and focus on capturing the personality of your little one!
See Freddie and some of my other gorgeous baby clients on my newborn Pinterest page and also a selection of my slightly older, sitting babies.
