When parents bring something new to the session to include in their newborn portraits I love it and baby Harvey’s Mum did just that. They were given a gift voucher from co-workers, one of whom helps to run Window to the Womb, in Worthing. A great local scanning clinic specialising in early, Well-being, Gender & 3D/4D/HDlive Baby Scans and where if you happen to pop in for a scan you will see my work proudly displayed on their walls 🙂 plus you receive 10% off your newborn session if you have visited them and picked up one of my flyers.
But I digress, back to the gorgeous Harvey 🙂 He came in to the Samphire studio at 13 days old and his Mum brought with him her baby belly cast she had done when she was expecting her little boy (I must say she has some amazing friends as this was also a gift). I have been wanting to photograph a newborn in a belly cast for ages so was super excited to finally have the chance to do it and, as expected little Harvey fitted in perfectly. It was quite nerve-wracking as although I am used to handling newborn babies I certainly felt the pressure not to damage the bump cast as it felt a whole lot more delicate! I used extra padding around the base to stop it from being able to move, any blankets which ended up in the shot were quickly edit out afterwards, and Dad was also on hand to keep a watch of Harvey whilst I took the shot from above. However Harvey was such a super sleeper we manages to capture sooooo many amazing images I just had to share just a few more with you all.
I love babies feet and try to capture these at all my sessions as they are just so adorable and teeny tiny and if your children are anything like mine they grow at a rate of knots, so it is always lovely to capture these small newborn details.
And as for the last image I am going to share with you, who doesn’t love a newborn yawn? Parents definitely do as this means that they might get a little rest for a while whilst baby sleeps but as for the rest us….well it is certainly making me feel a little sleepy…in fact I might just go and have a lie down myself. ‘Night.

All my newborn clients are invited back to the Samphire studio for a complimentary sitter session. That way I get to see how ‘my’ babies have grown plus also this is probably one of my most favourite ages to photograph babies at. At this stage babies may be sitting up or lifting themselves up onto all fours, bringing opportunities to pose them sitting in our vintage baskets or tin bath tub. These sessions are fun, and focus on capturing the personality of your little one!
