So, what is the best way to celebrate your child’s first birthday? Well I maybe a tad biased but why not celebrate with a cake smash? These can take place on your child’s actual birthday or just before or after. Not only are they a great experience for both you and your child but they leave you with amazing images to keep and treasure.
Charlotte came in to celebrate her first birthday and Mum selected silver and pinks for her session. A gorgeous combination which I love. I teamed these up with a gentle grey backdrop to tie in everything and we sere set. The balloon garland was made the day before and hung so it was all ready for her big day. Charlotte’s session was just after her first birthday and I was super excited to see her, having photographed her for her newborn portraits the previous year. Check out how speedy Karen and I are!!!! Ha ha, Karen even managed to wear colour co-ordinating clothes for the set up!!!!!
The Smash Itself
Charlotte was such a happy little girl and enjoyed the whole session, from the pre-smash images right through to her clean up bubble bath at the end.
For all Cake Smash sessions I include images before the smash, where you are free to bring along your own outfit or use one of mine. Then we have the smash itself. Don’t worry if your little one doesn’t get stuck straight in. I have plenty of experience to get them involved. Then, after all cake has been smashed/ smeared/ eaten we move on to the clean up. A lovely warm bubble bath in my vintage rolltop bath. What more could you ask for….well bubbles of course!
Charlotte got stuck right into her cake and we were rewarded with a face plant. Not that common but so great when you manage to capture it! You can see from my selection of images below just how much she enjoyed her session.
After The Session
I always guarantee 20 images for all my clients, which get edited and put into an online viewing gallery but there are always soooo many more great images from a cake smash session. Most parents end up viewing 40-50 images! The best thing about this is that if you purchase the whole gallery you get all the images, whether there are 20 or 60, at the same cost!
If you are looking at the best way to celebrate your child’s first birthday then definitely consider a cake smash session.
