Here’s my handy list of 5 things so you know what to bring to your newborn session
Five essential items worth packing in your change bag.
1. PLENTY OF NAPPIES – By now you will be aware that newborn babies poo….a lot…..especially breastfed ones. So make sure you bring plenty of nappies. I often start my sessions with their nappies off. But when your baby is swaddled for family and sibling shots I pop their nappy back on. This means if your little one does go for a number 2 you are protected. I always keep an eye (and nose!) on their nappy to avoid any soiling burning their delicate skin. Don’t worry, however, as I do have a supply here if you run out.
2. PLENTY OF FOOD – If you are breastfeeding you will have it on tap. If not, make sure you bring plenty of formula and bottles in case we need to give baby a little more food to help settle them. I am able to provide any hot water you need to warm bottles, should your baby prefer their milk at a slighter higher temperature.
3. SNACKS – I do provide refreshments here with a selection of hot drinks and some snacks. But you might like to bring along something more in case the session lasts longer than planned. This is especially important if you are bringing along young siblings as they tend to get hungry quicker than us adults. Lunchtime in the studio for siblings often starts around 10 minutes after they turn up for their session!
4. DUMMY – If you are using one please bring this along as often dummies can help to soothe a fidgety baby and give them a little comfort. If you are not using one but are happy for me to use one to aid the session then please let me know. If your baby has never had a dummy do not worry. Using one for a couple of minutes won’t cause any confusion with your little one’s feeding. However, they are your baby, so if you’d rather we didn’t use one then that is totally fine.
5. ANY SPECIAL ITEMS – If you have any special items you would like me to include in the session, such as blankets or toys, then please feel free to bring these along. As they can make your session even more unique and special to you and your newborn. Make sure that you let me know at the beginning of the session what you have brought along so that I can incorporate it at the right time in the session.
However, as a mum of three, I know how stressful life can be getting out of the house with a newborn. Don’t panic if you have forgotten what to bring to your newborn session. Here at Samphire Photography I do have plenty of nappies, refreshments and even some individually wrapped and sterilised dummies, just in case! The only thing I definitely can’t provide is any breast milk!!!! If you have any other questions don’t forget you can contact your newborn photographer before your session. They will be more than happy to help answer any queries you may have. My newborn sessions are a relaxed experience for you and your baby to enjoy. Creating memories of this very precious time you have together when your little one is super new.
Looking forward to seeing you for your newborn session xxx
