When Lily’s Mum booked her in for her first birthday cake smash she asked for “…a grey and pink (light and dusky pink) colour scheme so it ties in with the session that we had when she was a week old. We don’t have a particular preference as to a theme so will leave that up to you.” Oh that is music to my ears! My first thought was a beautiful balloon cake smash and what better way to achieve this than with a gorgeous balloon garland? Now, I hadn’t made one of these before but it proved surprisingly easy…. once I had blown up and tied all the balloons that is! Balloon garlands work best with 5 different colours, plus now I have found a brilliant little plastic tool to help me tie them and save those aching fingers, I never was any good at tying balloons anyway! I particularly love the pink chrome balloons which both me and my assistant Karen have fallen in love with. To complete the garland I added in some real gypsophila, or baby’s-breath, which was just perfect for this baby girl.
I had previously photographed Lily for her newborn portraits almost a year before, as she came in to the Samphire studio for her cake smash just a few days before her first birthday, and you can see from her newborn portrait that she has kept her lovely dark hair and now has amazing dark brown eyes to match.
Lovely Lily’s character really showed through and she loved all aspects of the cake smash; the pre-smash portrait, the cake smash itself and then her splash session afterwards. You can see from some of the images below that she totally got stuck into the cake. A fantastic session filled with fun and laughter which has provided her family with some amazing memories. It is always lovely to hear how much clients love their portraits and Lily’s Mum emailed me after she had viewed her online gallery to let me know that she was really pleased with the images from the session. She wrote, “Thanks again for the cake smash session – the photos are brilliant and capture the many aspects of Lily’s personality.” That makes me so happy ????
Here are just some of those images from Lily’s beautiful balloon cake smash session xx
