Woodland cake smashes are probably one of my most popular cake smash themes, with people looking for a Cake Smash photographer Surrey. And it’s not difficult to see why. They bring such a gorgeous fun feel of the outdoors indoors, . As popular as they are, I do predominantly get asked for this type of session for boys. But this is absolutely not always the case. And I tailor all my sessions to make yours bespoke to you.
Where did you get that?
I often get asked by other photographers where I purchased this backdrop. It’s one that I lot quite often for a woodland theme. So many photographers purchase a pre-printed backdrop and use this to set the scene. But, not me. Every session is designed and made up for you, with no pre-purchased scene backdrops. Several years ago I sourced a number of gorgeous silver birch branches from a friend’s wood. They have been the backbone of these sessions ever since. Teamed up with all sorts of colours they give a very different feel depending on the season the parents want or what colours they would like me to include.
I think the Autumn colours work particularly well in a woodland set-up work as they as a little vibrant pop. It also means I get to use my selection of fabulous red mushrooms too. When I was asked for woodland floral for one boy’s first birthday cake smash I was literally in my element. As a result, I may have gone somewhat overboard with the fungi but it looked amazing. Real and fake flowers mixed together work so well.
As mentioned above, often these set ups are asked for little boys who are turning one but not always….
Here come the girls
Woodland sessions for girls often get teamed up with florals and the odd fluffy animal, at their parents’ request. I love to get my thinking cap on to see what floral treats are available, depending on the time of year. Here is where connections come in, as I work closely with a local floraculturist to bring in seasonal flowers to make the sessions even more special to you. I always team these up with florals from my own extensive collection as well. You know me, the more flowers the better!!
Don’t forget the animals
I have a wide selection of animals that quite often feature in my woodland cake smash sessions. For example, foxes, rabbits, squirrels and even a mouse of two can usually be spotted hiding in the background! Always on the lookout for more little animals to add to my collection for these sessions. Possibly the cutest ones are my little set of dormice!
Winter Wonderland
This particular woodland theme is one of my favourites. And whether you are a boy or a girl it works equally as well. I have a range of different coloured backgrounds to pop behind the trees and plenty of additional smaller festive trees to pop in the front for you. Not to mention I get to use fake snow!!!!!! Which gave the animals in the first image below the feel that they had been out foraging.
The great thing about this set up is that, because it is so popular, I am sourcing new props all the time. This is one of my latest; woodland camping using a starry night backdrop with some great ferns and massing pine cones I sourced whilst out on a walk from a fallen tree. I love being able to use what I find in the woodland in and around Sussex. It helps to make these sessions even more realistic.
Do I need to bring anything?
Well, there is one simple answer….no! Everything is supplied. From the outfits down to the cake it is all themed together. All part of making your cake smash experience totally enjoyable and stress-free. As for the mess… Well I get the pleasure of cleaning that up afterwards. Apart from the cake crumbs your little one might lovingly hug into you during the session that is! It’s all part of the experience, when you book in with a Cake Smash photographer Surrey.
In conclusion, I simply love cake smashes. From the set design, the pre-smash pictures, the smash itself through to the cleanup bath at the end. These sessions leave me smiling almost as much as the little ones who come in.
